More informationThe Salinas de Calpe are a naturally wet place. They are made up of a lagoon created by a double tongue of sand. The location of the Rock of Ifach, right nearby, played a decisive role in the formation of this area. For a long time, this natural space remained an economic resource for the city because of the salt: it was used to store fish that was then offered.
The nature lovers will be able to discover these 45 hectares of protected space. From a size point of view, the park is one of Europe’s smallest, but it’s not the least interesting! Its bioclimatic characteristics, its position and its orientation allow the development of a unique and diverse flora. For this reason the park is one of the most visited in the Valencia region.
Among other things, you can admire around 80 different species of birds that are either breeding, migrating or that are simply wandering.
Mirador Monte Toix has one of the most beautiful views on the Costa Blanca. You can admire the Rock of Ifach, the towns of Calp and Altea as well as the mountains behind Benidorm. The deep blue Mediterranean is also a wonder to behold.
A stunningly beautiful view, where you can appreciate both the natural character of the region and the way it has been developed.
Fine golden sand, crystal clear waters, Levante o La Fossa beach has everything to tempt beach lovers right from the start. In addition, there are all the facilities you need for a great day out on the beach. The cherry on the cake – the view is stunningly beautiful. You can admire the less famous side of the Rock of Ifach with its vegetation sliding down to the edge of the beach. All along the well maintained promenade which backs onto the beach, there are lots of restaurants and shops.
The ancient Roman settlers in the region relied heavily on the sea and salt: it was the basis of their trade. This trade gave place to the planning of a town, including these baths.
The site is made up of three parts: the Roman Vicus, the thermal complex of the Muntanyeta and The Baths of the Queen. These facilities, testifying in particular to the luxury of that time, constitute a truly cultural heritage.
A 17th century building houses the Eberhard Schlotter Foundation, an exhibition space created in 1995 after the legacy of the german painter Eberhard Schlotter to show gratitude to the town of Altea, that welcomed him and where he completed much of his work.
This cultural site therefore includes donated works from his collection, as well as art reference books, video projections and a shop that sells posters, postcards, catalogues and artworks. The Foundation also organizes temporary exhibitions showcasing national and international artists.
